LAHORE: Following strong reaction by candidates over unfair marking of a paper, Punjab University administration revised the recently announced result of LLB Part-III Annual Examination 2019 awarding 10 ‘grace marks’ to each of the student in the paper.

An alarming number of 942 candidates were declared as failed in the paper of Civil Procedure Code (CPC) in the LLB Part-III which led to protest demonstrations by the students for unfair marking. This prompted the Punjab University administration to come into action. A committee comprising pro-vice chancellor, dean and principal of the PU Law College was formed which listened to the students.

Most of the students the committee listened had not failed in any of the paper in all three parts of LLB in the past except for third year’s CPC. A sub-committee, comprising legal experts and faculty members, was formed which reviewed the paper marking. The committee found unlike past practice only two examiners, from the Law College, had marked the papers and did not properly check the papers leading to alarming number of failed candidates. The committee recommended awarding 10 ‘grace marks’ to all the candidates, around 4,000, who had appeared in the abovementioned paper. Interestingly, the university administration has not taken any action against the examiners who had marked the papers against the standards set by the PU examination branch.

A PU spokesperson said Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad had formed the committee and the results were revised on the recommendations of the committee.
