Asks Centre to stamp out militancy

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a resolution condemning the killing of Punjab Home Minister Colonel (Retd) Shuja Khanzada in a terrorist attack and asked the federal government to stamp out militancy.
The resolution was moved by Senior Minister Inayatullah, who belongs to the Jamaat-i-Islami, and Pakistan People’s Party’s Member Provincial Assembly Nighat Orakzai. It was signed by all the parliamentary leaders in the provincial assembly.
On a point of order, Nighat Orakzai requested the House to offer fateha for the departed soul of Shuja Khanzada and all those killed in the suicide attack at his hujra in Shadikhan village in the Attock district.
Before presenting a joint resolution, provincial ministers Atif Khan and Shahram Khan Tarakai, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MPAs Sardar Aurangzeb Nalotha and Raja Faisal Zaman, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl MPA Munawar Khan and Qaumi Watan Party’s Bakht Baidar Khan condemned the killing of the Punjab home minister and lauded his role in making efforts to eradicate terrorism.
In their joint resolution, the lawmakers asked the Punjab government to continue the mission of Shuja Khanzada and take action against terrorists and extremists in the province.
The resolution also demanded of the federal government to complete inquiry into the Attock suicide bombing and expose the elements behind the terrorist act.
The resolution added that the public representatives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly would stand by those who sacrificed their lives for restoring peace in Pakistan.
Earlier, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak informed the House that he would soon meet President Mamnoon Hussain and request him to extend all the laws to the Provincially Administered Tribal Areas (Pata) that had been passed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, including the Right to Information Bill and the University (Amendment) Bill.
PTI MPA Dr Haider Ali from Swat had raised the issue of implementing all the laws in Malakand division passed by the provincial assembly, particularly those related to Swat University.
Speaker Asad Qaiser asked the House to bring a joint resolution asking the President of Pakistan to extend the new legislation to Pata at the earliest.
