Justice (Retd) Wajihuddin Ahmed on Monday said the resignations submitted by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) national and provincial assembly members stand approved, as per the constitution of Pakistan.
“They have submitted their resignations to the speaker in black and white, and they have also told the media that they have tendered their resignations without any coercion,” Justice (Retd) Ahmed said. He was speaking as chief guest in a seminar entitled ‘National Solidarity’ organised by the Tanzeem Al Ikhwan Pakistan at the Karachi Press Club.
He said Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Reham had demanded that the resignations of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) assembly member should had been accepted after they had submitted their resignations.
“MQM’s resignations should be accepted or it would be a mockery of the constitution.” Speaking on other issues, he said the parallel education system in Urdu and English had been a root problem, but believed that English should remain an official language in the country.
