LAHORE
The 68th Independence Day on the 14th of August 2015 is just around the corner and the Independence Day preparations euphoria is becoming a fever in every locality, on every road and in every street of the metropolis.
There are green and white national flags fluttering in very street’s corner and on the busy roads’ shop centres since the sale of the paraphernalia of the Independence Day are in full swing.
The people of all ages, specially the children, have started making elaborated arrangements for this blessed day with the national flags, green and white wrist bands, badges and headgear being on the top of the Independence Day shopping lists. The hoisting of the national flag on the houses and private buildings has already started at least two weeks before the mega event. The youngsters, particularly teenaged boys, have been seen busy in finalising their plans for the 14th of August outing.
The most favourite as well as most dangerous activity on youngster’s agenda remains the scary display of acrobatics (Wheelie) on their motorbikes. Thousands of youngsters have removed the silencers of their motorbikes to add the element of ‘fun’ in their Independence Day parade on the city roads. Wheelie is the most dreadful aspect which creates fear in the hearts and minds of the common people who shy away from the main roads due to hooliganism. This fearful exercise causes unbearable injuries and even deaths to the youths due to this reckless and fatal activity.
Nevertheless, 14th of August2015 seems to have a special significance and reason to celebrate the day since it is coming in a comparatively relaxed environment in the country in general and in the provincial capital in particular owning to the commendable success of the Pak Army, government and the law enforcing agencies who curbed it boldly.
