An advocate of a superior court was gunned down late on Sunday night opposite Safari Park on University Road and his friend was injured in what the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police describes as a targeted attack.
Advocate Ashfaq Qaimkhani was the legal adviser of Rufi Builders and a resident of Rufi Springfield situated in Sohrab Goth, said Gulshan-e-Iqbal SHO Farooq Sanjrani.
He said the lawyer had left his home with a friend, Riffat Khan, to meet an estate agent in Block 13-C of Gulshan-e-Iqbal. He had been on his way home after the meeting when unidentified men opened indiscriminate fire at his car.
“The car was being driven at fast speed so when the lawyer was shot it overturned,” said SHO Sanjrani.
“The police mobiles also reached the spot and moved the victims to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where and a private hospital where Advocate Ashfaq was pronounced dead while his friend survived.”
He said the deceased received six to seven bullet wounds in different parts of his body, including his chest and head. The friend of the deceased, Riffat Khan, sustained a single gunshot wound in his leg.
The police official said the attackers had used a 9mm pistol and spent bullet casings were collected from the crime scene.
He said there were no CCTV cameras in the immediate vicinity of the site of the shooting.
The SHO said it was still early to comment on whether the murder was driven by personal enmity or was it part of targeted attacks in the city.
