Sindh Food Minister Manzoor Hussain Wassan has directed the authorities concerned to sell surplus wheat stocked in department’s silos on government-fixed prices so prevent it from getting spoiled, and thus wasted, due to the rain or other elements.
Presiding over a meeting at his office on Tuesday, the provincial food minister said selling surplus wheat stock in the open market on price fixed by the government would prevent its wastage.
He also directed the authorities concerned to plan for establishing new storage facilities for wheat under the provincial government’s annual development programme.
The minister also asked to be presented details of all the available wheat stock and whether the storage units were fumigated or appropriately prepared to preserve the food commodity from getting spoiled.
In this regard, the minister set up a committee under deputy director food of Hyderabad division and asked him to compile a report on the protection measures taken at each of the white silos in Sindh, including the use of tarpaulin and fumigation.
