PESHAWAR: Terming the allocation of Rs500 million for the rehabilitation of the affectees of recent floods in Chitral district as meagre, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) senior leader and former Member National Assembly Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali has asked the government to announce more relief packages for the calamity-hit region.
Speaking at a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, he said the floodwater destroyed 80 percent of the infrastructure in the landlocked district. Criticising the federal and provincial governments, the JI leader said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI’s) chief Imran Khan’s visits to Chitral were just photo sessions.
He said both the leaders were briefed by the officials of the local administration and told that ‘all is well’. He said none of them bothered to meet the local people to know the hardships being faced by the flood affectees. He asked the government to announce Rs10 billion and release the amount immediately to complete the process of rehabilitation in time.
