Two shot dead, four injured by suspected robbers

Two men were gunned down and four others were wounded for allegedly resisting robbery attempts in different parts of Karachi on Thursday, while another man was shot dead over what police believe to be personal enmity.

The Surjani Town police said that an egg and bread vendor was gunned down by hitherto unidentified people in Sector 4-D of the town. The victim was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH), where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. He was identified as 21-year-old Irfan, son of Bashir Ahmed.

SHO Ahsan said the man was shot once in the head and had died shortly after the attack, adding that the incident occurred when some suspects attempted to snatch a mobile phone from him and he resisted the bid.

The armed motorcyclists, however, managed to escape after committing the crime. Police said that they were waiting for the family to register a case, adding that further investigation was under way.

Separately, another young man was shot dead by hitherto unidentified people in Sector 8-L of Orangi Town. The victim was taken to the ASH with critical wounds, but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. He was identified as 26-year-old Fareed, son of Hanif.

SHO Shamsu Zaman said that hitherto unidentified men were trying to snatch a motorcycle from the victim’s brother, namely Aliyan, from outside their home when the victim resisted the bid, prompting the suspects to open fire on him.

Meanwhile, two people were also injured over resisting a robbery bid in Yaro Goth located in Kaniz Fatima Society, which falls within the jurisdiction of the Surjani Town police station.

The injured people were identified as 40-year-old Farooq Shah, son of Zahur Shah, and 35-year-old Shahid, son of Babu Din. Police said the incident occurred when hitherto unidentified suspects shot them for resisting a robbery bid.

Similarly, a young man identified as Adnan was injured in a firing incident that took place near the Manzil Pump, which falls within the jurisdiction of the Quaidabad police station. He was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medical treatment. Police said that the incident occurred over resisting a robbery bid.

Moreover, another young man identified as John Zulfiqar was injured in a firing incident in Phase-I of the Defence Housing Authority. The injured was taken to the JPMC. Police said that the incident took place over resisting a robbery bid.

Jacobabad man

Thirty-year-old Hafeezullah, son of Mir, was brought to the ASH with critical injuries from near the Karim Shah shrine in Tharo Mengal Goth, which falls within the jurisdiction of the Gulshan-e-Maymar police station.

He was taken to the ASH, where he breathed his last during treatment. SHO Ishtiaq Ghauri said that the deceased hailed from Jacobabad and used to live in the same locality where he was attacked. He said that the victim used to work in Karachi as a labourer.

Police said the motive behind the incident was yet to be ascertained, adding that the incident apparently occurred due to a personal enmity. Officials said they were looking for the victim’s family to register a case.

Rangers arrest five

The paramilitary force on Thursday arrested five suspects during raids in different parts of the city. According to a spokesperson for the Sindh Rangers, three suspects were arrested during raids in Baloch Colony and Korangi Industrial Area for being involved in a number of robbery cases. The suspects were identified as Shah, Zubair Ahmed and Naveed Ali.

During a raid in the Gulbahar area, Zahid was arrested for his involvement in various cases of crime. Moreover, a drug peddler, Jamil Ahmed, was arrested during a raid in the Baloch Colony area.

The soldiers also claimed to have recovered drugs, arms and ammunition from the suspects. They were later handed over to police for initiation of legal action.
