Suo-motu bench

This refers to the news report, ‘SC sets verdicts’ timeframe for judiciary’ (June 26). This indeed is a landmark judgement. It will not only provide speedy justice to litigants and end case backlog but would also help improve the performance of the otherwise sluggish departments relating to public dealings as well.
The Supreme Court is also requested to constitute a special bench to take up suo motu notice on matters relating to fundamental rights, ie, price hike, loadshedding, deaths in Karachi due to the heatwave, etc. This would prove instrumental in bringing a rather inactive government machinery into action and people’s problems would be remedied to a great extent.
