PESHAWAR: The workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) continued to stage protests against the arrest of lawmaker and former provincial minister Ziaullah Afridi by the Ehtesab Commission by organizing another protest in the city Sunday night.
The protest was called at the Hashtnagri Chowk on the G T Road. The protestors condemned Ziaullah Afridi’s arrest and termed it unlawful. They also termed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission as “Pervez Khattak Commission” and alleged that Ziaulllah Afridi was arrested at the behest of Chief Minister Pervez Khattak.
Former mines and mineral development minister Ziaullah Afridi’s have been holding almost daily protests in Peshawar against his arrest by the Ehtesab Commission on charges of corruption and misuse of powers. One protest was staged on the day of his arrest.
Another was organized when Ziaullah Afridi was brought to the Ehtesab Court for getting his physical remand. On the occasion, the protestors scuffled with the police and raised slogans against the chief minister and the provincial government. The protestors blocked the Suray Pull area near the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and caused traffic jams much to the discomfort of the commuters. The protestors stay there for four hours and broke their Ramazan fast also on the road. A clear division is visible among the PTI workers as some of them have backed Ziaullah Afridi’s arrest and said he should be punished if found guilty. However, many other party activists believe Ziaullah Afridi has fallen foul of a conspiracy and had been framed on cooked up charges.
