Better investment in education ‘to help create knowledge economy’

Better investment in higher education will help create a knowledge economy in the country, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said on Saturday.
“Increased investment in higher education by raising budgetary allocations is part of our (government’s) efforts to leverage science and technology for a knowledge economy. The dream of creating a knowledge economy can’t be realised without promoting quality education,” he told a group of college students during a meeting here.
The minister said education had played a vital role in economic and social development through the best human resource and social cohesion.
“Today, all nations are competing to build smart and quality human resources,” he said.
The minister said Pakistan needed a knowledge revolution to leapfrog in the community of developed nation and the government's Vision 2025 laid a great emphasis on it.
He said the country had yet to benefit from new growth opportunities in the technology-enabled space but the current government was making corrective measures. The minister said after the launch of Pakistan-China Economic Corridor, the government had planned to develop an ‘innovation corridor’ to link local universities with reputable foreign universities for exchange of information, ideas, knowledge and experiences.
