A three-member delegation of the Muslim Council of Elders, (MCE) Egypt lead by Professor Dr. Yousuf Amer on Wednesday visited International Islamic University Islamabad and met Rector Dr Masoom Yasinzai.
Dr. Yousuf was accompanied by Dr. Reham Abdullah and Research Scholar Ms Asma Shubaan. The delegation was received at IIU new campus on behalf of IIU President Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh by Gulzar Ahmed Khawaja, Director General (AF&P), while Dr. Muhammad Ziaul Haq, Director Islamic Research Institute (IRI) IIU, and Dr. Muhammad Anwar, Head of IIU Alumni, were also present.
In meeting with IIU Rector Dr. Yousuf, who is also Deputy Dean of Languages Al-Azhar University, Egypt, apprised Dr. Masoom about objectives and goals of Muslim Council of Elders and different projects to disseminate the message of peace, tolerance and co-existence in the world particularly in Muslims societies.
He said MCE has been established with the aim to eradicate social evils from the societies and strengthen the moral values. He said the council is free from any bias and sectarian element, condemns the extremist attitude in young minds of Muslim Ummah. Dr. Yousuf also admired the contributions of IIU for the services of Islam and Muslim Ummah, he also requested co-operation from IIU in this effort.
Dr. Masoom viewed a mechanism for students, teachers exchange programme which actually would strengthen the mutual relations of both countries. He also thanked to Govt of Egypt and Al-Azhar University Egypt, for its rich contribution in IIU academia and faculty.
"Both countries Pakistan and Egypt are making lot of progress in science and technology and serving Muslim Ummah with their trained and skilled human resources," Dr. Masoom said.
The IIU rector assured the delegates of co-operation for the cause of Islam and said the peace caravan would turn out to be a great milestone towards peace, stability and prosperity of Muslim Ummah.
