Professor Dr Jamil Hasan Kazmi, who is a member of the University of Karachi's syndicate, officially took charge as chairman of the Geography Department on Monday.
He termed the renovation of the building and laboratories of the department his major priority. Dr Kazmi, who is also president of hte Karachi University Teachers’ Society, said the suspended MPhil/PhD programmes as part of the GIS programme would be restored, and new study programmes would be introduced in accordance with the needs of the students.
Kazmi said collaboration with foreign universities such as Berlin University (Germany), Georgia University (USA), Salzburg University (Austria) and Sichuan University (China) would be restored. He vowed to send students and faculty members abroad to participate in international conferences and workshops.
