LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has announced a judicial inquiry into printing of a map of Saraikistan and Hazara province in the textbook of 8th Class Geography while terming it regrettable and tantamount to a heinous crime.
Addressing a meeting in which various aspects regarding printing of a wrong map in geography book of 8th class were considered in detail, the chief minister said a judicial inquiry would be held into the incident and a letter would be written to the Lahore High Court Chief Justice for this purpose.
He said had there been an effective system of checks and balances in the department concerned, wrong map could not have been printed and this serious mistake would have been checked in time. He said the department concerned did not fulfill its responsibilities properly due to which the mistake of printing of a wrong map in geography book occurred.
He said that after identifying this mistake, the department and authorities concerned should have taken action immediately but they did not perform their responsibility. He said when this matter came into the notice of senior authorities; action should have been taken as it was not an ordinary incident.
He said Chief Minister’s Inspection Team (CMIT) would also submit its report regarding the incident separately and the elements involved in this heinous crime would not escape punishment under the law. He said it was lamentable that there was no mechanism of checking at any level but it was essential to evolve an effective monitoring system in future.
