A brother of a former PPP MPA and frontman of a political figure was arrested at the Karachi airport when he was leaving for the United States on Thursday, sources said.
Muhammad Ali Shaikh, brother of a former member of the Sindh Assembly and resident of Sukkur, is allegedly involved in land grabbing and corruption.
He was leaving for the US via Dubai when officials of sensitive agencies arrested him and took him to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
The sources said Shaikh was the purported frontman of an important figure of the Pakistan People’s Party and the agencies had been monitoring his activities for quite some time. After the launch of an operation by the Rangers and other agencies against persons involved in land grabbing and financial scams, he was trying to flee the country but was caught, they said.
The sources did not disclose the name of the PPP leader for which Shaikh acted as frontman.
In another development, three officials of Fishermen’s Cooperative Society — Rana Shahid, Muhammad Khan Chachar and Shahzaib Shamim -- were arrested by the authorities and shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation for their alleged involvement in corruption.
