NOWSHERA: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Tuesday said that the protest public meeting of the tripartite alliance in Peshawar was a flop show.
Speaking at a ceremony in Pashtun Garhi here, he said that the people had rejected the protest call of the opposition parties. He said the PTI could organise a big public meeting on a short notice. The chief minister said that differences had emerged in the three parties’ alliance of the Awami National Party, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl and Pakistan People’s Party.
Rejecting the allegations of rigging in the recent local government elections, Pervez Khattak said that the provincial government also had complaints of mismanagement in the polls but the opposition parties were trying to put the blame on the government. The chief minister claimed that the opposition parties had prepared a plan to stir violence during the local government elections. Pervez Khattak said the scale of violence was high in the areas where the position of the candidates of PTI was strong. “Still the PTI managed to become a leading political party in the local government polls,” he added. The chief minister claimed that PTI would form its’ own government in 12 districts and coalition governments in another eights districts. He said that the provincial government had allocated 30 percent in the Annual Development Programme (ADP) for local governments. The chief minister said that extra funds would be provided to the councillors for better performance. He said that the local governments will be autonomous in carrying out responsibilities.
