An American delegation comprising three Cultural Heritage Programme Managers, headed by Archaeologist Dr. Laura Tedesco, visited National Book Foundation (NBF) head office here, says a press release.
The members of delegation appreciated the work of the Foundation after visiting Bookshop, Book Museum, Book Park, Readers Club and other sections of NBF.
NBF Managing Director Prof. Dr. Inam-ul-Haq Javeid explained the aims, roles and working of National Book Foundation (NBF) to the delegation in his briefing. He briefed the delegation on how NBF is working and playing its vital role in developing and promoting the Book Culture among the people in the society. He said that the book is used as an effective weapon for peace and harmony in the country as it changes positively the minds of people. He said, "the old books are being reviewed and new ideas and thoughts are being published in a way to promote book reading habit among people with a fast pace." Now the books published and republishing are going throughout the country. Book fairs and book galas are being organised in every city of Pakistan to promote book culture."
He said, "NBF is now putting its efforts in the project of translation of literary works of other languages into Urdu in order to promote literary culture of others," he said.
American culture is a well-known and popular among others cultures and people are showing their interest in reading their literary cultural works. Therefore, NBF has a plan to publish translations of American literature into Urdu.
The delegation members appreciated this novel idea. They took keen interest in all policies and planning of NBF. They also assured their cooperation in promotion of Book Culture in Pakistan. The delegation is likely to do cooperation in the translation plan of different cultures in Urdu language which will definitely create a friendly atmosphere between both countries. They were very enthusiastic about initiating this remarkable work.
