LAHORE : PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi was released from Camp Jail here on Saturday, after his life imprisonment was suspended and bail application was accepted by Lahore High Court's (LHC) division bench in illegal ephedrine quota case.
The LHC bench headed by Justice Alia Neelum accepted Hanif Abbasi's bail petition on Thursday, directing his release from the jail on submitting two surety bonds worth of Rs10 million. A large number of PML-N workers gathered outside the Camp Jail to give rousing welcome to the ex-MNA who was arrested three days before the last general elections after anti-narcotics court awarded him life imprisonment in ephedrine quota case. Seven other accused were acquitted due to lack of evidence. Hanif Abbasi was under treatment of heart and kidney ailments at Sheikh Zayed Hospital when his bail was accepted. Later, he was taken back to Camp Jail from where he was released on Saturday after completion of legal process.
