Crackdown on overpriced drugs continues

Islamabad : In continuation of the ongoing crackdown on sale of overpriced medicines, stocks were seized in major cities including Peshawar, Lahore, Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad, and Multan, states a press release issued by the Ministry of Health here Thursday.

Minister and CEO DRAP along with Inspector of Drugs raided UDL distribution Islamabad for seizure of overpriced medicine.

Minster for Health Aamer Mehmood Kiani and the CEO of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) Asim Rauf visited UDL distribution along with area Federal Inspector of Drugs and seized stocks of GlaxoSmithkline on the grounds of unauthorized increase in prices.

“Across the country, inspectors of DRAP are involved in active surveillance. Various medicines were seized in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Faisalabad and Peshawar. Stocks of overpriced medicine were seized in Faisalabad from IBL distribution; 39 medicines with unauthorized increase in pricing were seized from various pharmacies in Lahore; Karachi’s MM traders raided, leading to seizure of huge stocks of overpriced medicines; stocks seized from various medical stores in Peshawar; Balouch enterprises raided in Multan, leading to seizure of stocks of overpriced medicines,” the press release states. “Legal action will be taken against those involved in unauthorised increase in prices of medicine. Reduction in prices of 395 prices was notified and strict compliance of companies shall be ensured ,” Aamer is reported to have said.
