Man burns to death after gas explosion at home
A man was burnt to death when a fire broke out at his house following an explosion in Surjani Town on Thursday.
Responding to information about the incident, volunteers from welfare organisations, firefighters and a heavy contingent of law enforcers reached the house located in Sector 4-D of Surjani Town. The volunteers shifted the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy and later handed over to his family for burial.
The firefighters put out the blaze with hectic efforts of an hour. The victim was identified as 55-year-old Muhammad Arif, son of Majid Hasnain, who worked at a private firm. According to SHO Idrees Bangash, the explosion occurred when a gas pipeline passing through the bathroom exploded with a loud bang while Arif was inside the bathroom. The explosion was powerful and damaged a wall and the door of the bathroom.
The man was alone at home when the incident took place as his daughter and son were at a university while his wife had gone to visit her an ailing relative. Bomb disposal squad officials also reached the site and ruled out the possibility of a terror act, declaring the blast an accident. No case was registered as the police said that the fire erupted accidentally after the explosion.

An unidentified man was found axed to death in the outskirts of the city on Thursday. The body was found near Sakhi Dad Goth within the limits of the Sharfi Goth police station. Police and volunteers reached the site after being informed by some locals and took the body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where staff said that the victim was aged about 30 years. The body was later moved to a morgue for identification.
According to SHO Fawadul Hassan, the police did not find any identity paper on the victim. Fingerprints were obtained to ascertain his identity with the help of the National Database and Registration Authority.
The SHO said that some unidentified persons axed him to death apparently over a personal enmity. A case has been registered on behalf of the state against unidentified persons while an investigation is underway.
