Valuables burnt in factory fire

LAHORE: Roof of a godown collapsed while valuables worth lakhs of rupees were gutted when a fire erupted in the chemical godown of a factory in Islam Nagar on Multan Road here on Monday.

No loss of life or injury to anyone was reported in the incident. Rescue 1122 fire service reached the scene and controlled the fire after hectic efforts. Fire had erupted due to short-circuit and engulfed the godown. Thick smoke billowed into sky which also created breathing problem for residents. Rescue 1122 responded to the emergency and started rescue operation. Police reached the scene and collected evidence.

accidents: The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) responded to 1007 road crashes in all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. In these accidents, nine people died whereas 1,145 were injured.

ticketed: Lahore Transport Company, in the month of March, carried out enforcement action against 9,956 public transport vehicles in which 9,319 vehicles were issued challan tickets including 82 buses, 1,378 vans, 192 coasters, 2,479 auto-rickshaws and 5,160 motorcycle rickshaws on various violations of the Motor Vehicle Ordinance. The action was taken against vehicles without fitness certificate, route permit, having illegal LPG cylinders and overcharging by the transport operators.
