Sikhs express gratitude for Kartarpur Corridor

LONDON: Pakistan High Commissioner Nafees Zakaria received a delegation of Kar Sewa Committee Sikh Gurdham (UK), who conveyed their gratitude to the people and the government of Pakistan for the arrangements of upcoming event of 550th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak, said a statement issued on Thursday.

The delegation, led by the committee’s general secretary Joga Singh, eulogised Pakistan’s efforts in the opening of Kartarpur Corridor as the Sikh community has been longing for this for the last 70 years. The corridor opening is a gift from Prime Minister Imran Khan to the Sikh community on the eve of Baba Guru Nanak’s birthday.

The delegation praised and thanked the government and the people of Pakistan for restoration, maintenance and upkeep of Sikh sacred as well historical sites in Pakistan. Zakaria assured them that as per past practice, the High Commission would extend usual courtesies and assistance to the Sikh devotees.

He briefed the delegation about the investment and business opportunities that existed in religious tourism and infrastructure development. In order to show Pakistan’s message of universal peace, egalitarian brotherhood, social cohesion and religious harmony, the High Commissioner invited the delegation to visit all the Sikh historical places and share their experience and sentiments with the Sikh diaspora around the world.
