Multan Wasa providing water in 65pc urban areas: MD
MULTAN: Wasa Managing Director Rao Muhammad Qasim Tuesday said the agency was providing water in 65pc urban areas and sewerage facilities in 55pc areas without any pause.
Whereas according to Multan Master Plan, the Wasa is bound to provide drinking water and sewerage facilities to 100pc urban population until 2040. He said 25 new water purification plants were being constructed in different areas of the city and the construction work was in the final stages. He said the new water purification plants would be soon operational.
The numbers of Wasa’s water purification plants would reach to 58 from 33 on the completion of 25 new water purification plants. The MD said all the development schemes under Wasa were being executed according to the master plan. He said the Wasa had allocated Rs 2 billion for the replacement of rusted sewerage pipelines that would help combating with crown failures. He said there was no concept of life without water and soil water in Multan was quite sweet but citizen should save water for the next generations. He said Wasa was supplying water to citizens thrice in a day through 102 tube wells.
He said the Punjab government had planned water meters. The Wasa did not increase a single penny in water tariff since 2004 despite the rise in electricity and oil prices. Now the Wasa is going to revise water and sewerage tariff, he said. Keeping the current situation in view, it seems the locals of Multan would have to wait for the next 21 years to get drinking water and sewerage facilities for 100pc urban population.
