KUTS rejects salary raise, plans countrywide protest

Karachi

June 9, 2015

Karachi
The Karachi University Teachers’ Society (KUTS) on Monday announced to reject the 7.5 percent increase in lieu of proposed salaries in the federal budget announced on Friday.
The KUTS strongly condemned the decision and announced that they would join hands of the Federation of all Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association in a countrywide protest against such unacceptable judgement of the federal government.
The KUTS announced to call a meeting on June 15 to finalise the line of action regarding the protest.
They also expressed their concerns over delay in approval of leave encashment and delay in payment of dean research grants.
The KUTS had called a meeting on Monday to discuss the progress of the provincial government on assassination of an assistant professor Dr Syed Waheed-ur-Rehman.
They appreciated Sindh government’s efforts for establishing a joint investigation team as well as several arrests made regarding the killing. However, they said the government had not made any payment to the family members of Dr Rehman and Dr Shakeel Auj, and demanded that the compensation amount should be handover to their families immediately.
