People protest police ‘highhandedness’
PESHAWAR: The activists of “#Fixit” campaign on Sunday held a demonstration to protest the alleged highhandedness of a police constable against a shopkeeper.
Holding placards inscribed with slogans like “Stop killing innocent people”, “no more police mafia” and “be protectors, not usurpers,” the demonstrators gathered near Peshawar Press Club and chanted slogans against the police. The demonstration was in the wake of an incident wherein a police constable took a burger from a local shop in Gulberg locality without payment. The video of the incident went viral on Facebook, showing a man arguing with the police cop asking him to pay for the burger he took from the shop, but instead the policeman threatened the young man with dire consequences. After seeing the video on social media, the city police chief reportedly took action and ordered suspension of the cop. However, the activists of the #Fixit campaign held the protest over the issue.
