PYHA celebrates World Poetry Day

Islamabad : Pakistan Youth Hostel Association (PYHA) on Thursday celebrated World Poetry Day by bringing young and emerging poets under one roof sharing the podium with their senior poets, says a press release.

The World Poetry Day is an annual event that is celebrated with much enthusiasm by the PYHA Islamabad chapter.

A Mushaira was also organised on the occasion in which participated a large number of poets and writers and students.

They and shared their fresh 'kalam' (latest poems). In his welcome address, Secretary of the PYHA Qazi Humayun said poets and thinkers are the great asset of society and such events serve to bring cultures and talent of other parts together. This also provides the young poets a platform to learn from their senior writers and poets, he said.

Ambassador Qazi Humayun also introduced an anthology of poetry by his maternal uncle Qazi Umar Qaza. The book is titled "Kulyaaat Qazi Muhammad Umar Ata" and has some of the very fine poems and ghazals by the great poet from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Mushaira or Poetic Recital was presided over by senior poet Anjum Khalique while those who participated in it included Anwar Fitrat, Nasir Aqeel, Khurshid Rabbani, Muneer Fayyaz, Asghar Abid, Shaida Chishti, Samriya Qazi, Ghayyur Hassan, Saleha Jabeen, Ikram Ehsas, Kashif Rehman and Shumyla Ufaq.

Senior poet Wafa Chishti moderated the proceedings of the poetic recital.

Speaking on the occasion, the participating poets paid tributes to the acclaimed story writer Mazharul Islam who had been creatively engaging such activities to promote learning and keenness among the youth.
