MMA to hold lock down in capital to safeguard ‘Islamic ideology’

ISLAMABAD: Mutahidda Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) during a meeting of heads of all the parties of the alliance decided to hold lock down in the federal capital to safeguard Islamic identity and ideology of the country and all the Islamic clauses in the Constitution.

Addressing a press conference here at his residence after the meeting, the MMA President Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that schedule of lock down in Islamabad against policies of the government and to safeguard Islamic identity of Pakistan would be announced in near future.

He maintained that there was no room for highly objectionable and controversial women’s march in Islamabad or elsewhere in the country. “We will stop such activities in the country in the name of protection of rights,” he said.

Fazlur Rehman said that district organisations of MMA would also be given necessary directives to stop such activities of liberalism. “As we speak against vulgarity, an impression is given that religious parties are against rights of women,” he regretted.

Maulana said that there was complete consensus amongst parties of the religious on all the national issues, saying that journey for protection of the Islamic identity of Islamic Pakistan would continue jointly. “There will be no compromise on this issue,” he said.

The MMA meeting besides others was attended by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) acting ameer Liaquat Baloch, Allama Awais Noorani (Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan), Allama Sajid Mir (Jamiat Ahle Hadiath), Allama Sajid Naqvi (Islami Tehreek), Pir Ejaz Hashmi and Mian Muhammad Aslam.

He alleged that the government’s measures were aimed at encouraging Qadianis while a consultation process was also in hand also at the government level under external pressure to do away with Islamic clauses in the Constitution. “The religion will not allow any such move at any level,” he said.

The MMA president also warned the government to refrain from any attempt of recognising Israel as an independent state accusing that it seemed that both government and establishment were on same on the issue. “Any such move will not only hurt people of Palestine and interests of Pakistan but will also complicate the Kashmir issue,” he said.

Fazlur Rehman said the MMA leaders also condemned increase in Haj fares, saying that on the other hand the government was planning to spend billions of rupees for creation of more cinema houses in the country. “We will not allow the government to follow its current policies and priorities,” he said.

He regretted that at a time when the whole world was mourning massacre of Muslims in New Zealand, a musical concert was arranged at final of Pakistan Super League in Karachi after a token one minute silence. He alleged that the National Action Plan (NAP) as it was progressing was based on bad intentions and it was directed against madrassas.
