Shikarpur Police arrest four terrorists of banned outfit

SUKKUR: The police foiled a bid of terrorism on Wednesday and arrested four alleged members of a banned-outfit who possessed two pistols, two bombs, 35 hand grenades, three wireless sets, 20 kilograms explosive material and foreign currency from the Jaghan area in Shikarpur.

While addressing a press conference, the DIG Larkana, Irfan Ahmed Baloch, stated that the local police have arrested four terrorists of a banned-outfit and recovered weapons, ammunition and foreign currencies. He further said the police arrested two terrorists, identified as Saifullah aka Abdul Shakoor Lund, bomb expert, and Abdul Hakeem Banglani.

Baloch said the Shikarpur police carried out investigation against the terror network and arrested two terrorists, who were involved in recruiting youths for proscribed organisations and responsible for providing logistical support to carry out terror attacks. He further said that the arrested terrorists were allegedly involved in the provision of explosive material for two suicide attacks on former MNA Dr Muhammad Ibrahim Jatoi in his village Neaperabad and toll plaza near Shikarpur in 2009 and 2013 respectively. They were allegedly involved in various terrorist bids including a blast at Dargah Marri Sharif, in which the custodian Sain Hajan Shah and eight others were killed, a suicide attack at central Imambargah Karbla Moula, Lakhi Gate, Shikarpur, in which 70 innocent followers were killed and more than 100 people sustained injuries in January 2015, a blast on a procession of 9th Muharram in Jacobabad in which 28 followers were killed.

Replying to a question regarding arrest of their accomplices, the DIGP revealed that the police have also arrested two alleged suspects on the tip-off of the arrested terrorists, identified as Muhammad Ishaq Jaffari and Farooq Soomro. He said the network of terrorists has been rooted out from Shikarpur and as well as Sindh.

Replying to another question on the order to transfer ASP Shikarpur Amjad Farooq, who ha been transferred one day earlier and played a pivotal role in eliminating the terror network from Shikarpur, the DIGP said his transfer was revoked keeping an eye over his performance against the terrorists and banned outfits.

Replying to a question regarding the law and order situation in the district, he said the Shikarpur police are directed to take appropriate action against the tribal clashes to save innocent lives.
