Lyari gangsters among five suspects held

The Sindh Rangers on Friday arrested five suspects, including notorious Lyari gangsters, during raids in different parts of the metropolis.

According to a Rangers spokesman, Abdul Aziz, Majid and Sohail alias Akram alias Sunny were arrested in information-based raids in Lyari and Garden. They were earlier associated with the Ghaffar Zikri gang, but now they were working with the Shiraz Zikri gang.

A hand grenade, a detonator, a Kalashnikov, a 9mm pistol, bullets, Avon launcher with four Avon bombs were recovered from the suspects . During the initial investigation, the suspects told the Rangers that they had demanded a ransom of Rs300,000 from an owner of a medical store in the Khadda Market of Lyari and also delivered threats of dire consequences, but he refused. At this, they had lobbed a hand-grenade at his shop on March 1, and they had thrown a pamphlet of a banned outfit to dodge the investigators.

The suspects were active in Kharadar, Ali Muhammad Lane, Lea Market, Kalri, Bihar Colony and other areas of Lyari. Moreover, Adeel Ali Soomro and Furqan Shah were apprehended in the Sir Syed area for being involved in attempt to murder and dacoity cases. The soldiers have seized weapons and recovered looted valuables from the suspects. They were handed over to police for legal proceedings.
