Cricket fatigues
March 15, 2019
The fact that the Modi-led Indian government tried to politicise a cricket match should be condemned. Amidst ongoing tensions between Pakistan and India, Indian cricket players wore military caps during the second ODI against Australia to show solidarity with Pulwama attack victims.
As per the ICC, the act of the Indian cricket team was within the laws that allow member-countries to modify certain changes in their attire for a noble cause – as the South African team does by wearing the pink jersey to promote awareness regarding breast cancer. But in the case of India, the act has multilayered purposes – the upcoming general elections in India is one of them. However, the Indian monopoly in the ICC legitimised the act.
