A jewellery shop was robbed in Paposh Nagar early on Tuesday morning. According to SHO Farrukh Hashmi, a group of robbers armed with hammers and electronic cutters broke into the shop at 5:02am and took away valuables worth millions of rupees, including gold sets, artificial jewellery, diamonds and cash.
He said no CCTV camera was installed at the shop, but the police investigators had obtained the CCTV footage of nearby shops, fingerprints and other evidences from the crime scene to initiate an investigation.
Hashmi said the culprits took three minutes to complete their operation and escaped easily in their vehicle from the market, which did not have any watchman to prevent such thefts.
Other shopkeepers informed the shop owner, Haji Iqbal, about the robbery after they saw the broken shutter of the shop.
The police said that no case had been registered as the owner of the shop said he would come to the police to register an FIR after calculating the exact amount of the financial loss. Iqbal staged a protest against the incident and a large number of nearby shopkeepers and traders also joined him in his protest.
The protesters condemned the police for their failure to protect their businesses.
They claimed that the robbery incident in the market was not the first, and demanded immediate arrest of the suspects along with the recovery of the looted valuables.
