Estate agent arrested by NAB
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi on Thursday claimed to have arrested a real estate agent wanted in a corruption case.
The suspect arrested was identified as Muhammad Javed Makhdoom, son of Muhammad Ilyas Makhdoom, who was wanted in a corruption case, said the NAB Karachi spokesperson.
He added that the suspect had been charged with conniving with the then minister for ports and shipping, Kamran Michael, to allot three commercial plots, COM-154, COM-157 and COM-158 located at prime locations of the Karachi Port Trust Cooperative Housing Society, Mai Kolachi area, Karachi, in the names of three private persons against a hefty bribe.
The spokesperson said that the suspect played a role of the middleman in this entire transaction, facilitated the commission of crime and made millions in the process. The three plots of KPT Cooperative Society are worth Rs1.050 billion.
A corruption reference with respect to 16 such plots had already been filed by NAB Karachi, said the spokesperson, adding that however, during further investigation, evidence came on record regarding the involvement of Kamran Michael, who was arrested on February 8.
He is confined in Central Jail Karachi on judicial remand.
