Two terror suspects arrested

LAHORE: The Counter-Terrorist Department (CTD), Bahawalpur, arrested two suspected terrorists of a proscribed organisation on Friday.

CTD officials conducted an intelligence-based operation and arrested two alleged terrorists namely Dost Muhammad alias Dosu and Ata Ullah of disbanded organisation Balochistan Republican Army. Two kg explosive material, detonators, time devices and five hand grenades were seized from them. They revealed that destruction of main gas pipeline in Bahawalpur was their major target and they were funded by commander Baghi of Balochistan Republican Army, who is in Afghanistan, to complete the target. They also confessed that they were involved in two previous such attacks in Rahimyar Khan.

accidents: The Punjab Emergency Service/Rescue 1122 responded to 725 road accidents in all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. Nine people died and 805 sustained injuries in the road accidents. Out of the injured, 463 badly injured victims were removed to hospitals while 333 victims with minor injuries were given first aid by the rescue medical teams.

238 arrested: Model Town division police claimed to have arrested 238 criminals and seized arms and drugs from them.

The police seized 19 pistols, one Kalashnikov, one rifle, two kg charas, 1,828 gram heroin and 195 litre liquor from the arrested persons. As many as 129 persons were held for violating the laws on kite flying, wheelie, firing, price control and loudspeaker use.

Security: Security of the mosques, Imambargahs and other religious places remained tight on Friday. The DIG Operations, Lahore, issued directions to all the divisional SPs, DSPs and SHOs to ensure foolproof security arrangements. All SPs, DSPs and other officers ensured tight security arrangements at all the religious places.

open court: Lahore DIG Operations Muhammad Waqas Nazir held the consecutive seventh open court at his office on Friday and listened to the problems of the complainants.

The DIG issued orders to the police officers concerned to redress the genuine grievances of the citizens. He said most of the complaints lodged at the open court were related to property matters. He said he also listened to the problems of the people at his office on a daily basis.

Muhammad Waqas Nazir said that improvement had been seen in provision of justice at the police station level due to the administrative reforms introduced in Lahore Police. The DIG directed the police officers and officials to behave politely with the complainants, otherwise, strict disciplinary action would be taken against them.
