Daska SHO Shahzad Warraich accused of killing two lawyers has been booked and arrested. The natural course for the legal community was to prepare for contesting his trial in court to prove his guilt and seek an appropriate punishment. Unfortunately, the lawyers’ community has resorted to extrajudicial activities – holding country-wide demonstrations, destroying private and government properties, humiliating police and civil officials – to force the government to punish the accused in consonance with their emotions.
The Supreme Court Bar Association has given a 30-day deadline to the Punjab government to hold the trial of the accused and award punishment otherwise they will continue their demonstrations. In other words, the legal community has held the accused guilty, without a trial.
