ISLAMABAD: Reacting to the arrest of Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani, former chairman Senate Senator Mian Raza Rabbani Thursday said there was no justification for the arrest, as Article 7 of the Constitution provided explanation about the state which declared provincial assemblies as part of the federation.
He said it was an attempt to defame the speaker of the provincial assembly on behalf of any institution which was actually a bid to neglect Article 7 of the Constitution and state. He said there was no justification for the arrest of a person who held the Speaker’s slot. He said there was no precedent of arresting and raiding the Speaker’s house in the history.
Rabbani said the NAB’s recent action clearly indicated that politicians were being made a target. He said the federal parliamentary system was being eliminated under a well-thought-out political agenda. He said it was an attempt to scandalise and damage the state by defaming the speaker of the provincial assembly on behalf of one institution.
