Global warming

February 15, 2019

If reports are anything to go by, at least 33 percent of the ice in the Himalayas and Hindukush ranges will melt by the end of the current century. It merits a mention that the melting of these glaciers is likely to turn the region into bare rock. Also, the increase in seawater levels caused by the rapid melting will further adversely affect farming activities, the production of hydropower and other aspects of life.

The continued climatic pressure on these glaciers as a result of global warming may also lead to land erosion and landslides, threatening human lives and cropping battles. The authorities concerned need to pay serious attention to the issue before it is too late.
