This refers to the news report, ‘Senate starts debating public petitions’ (May 15). The age limit has always been a hot topic for all those aspiring to appear in CSS examinations. Therefore, credit should be given to senators for discussing this important issue.
The age limit for a candidate to CSS examinations should be 35 years. This would not affect the bureaucracy’s efficiency because when people above 60 can be appointed on important posts then there is no harm in relaxing the age limit. The federal government is requested to look into the matter. In addition, this will also help people from underdeveloped areas.

This refers to the news report, ‘Senate starts debating public petitions’ (May 15). The senators’ call for relaxing the age limit for CSS aspirants is a commendable step. The timing is also important because the FPSC has recently made changes to how a candidate can opt for optional subjects. But where the FPSC should be appreciated for revamping the examination structure, the timing at which these changes are made has created a lot of anxiety among CSS aspirants.
Not only has it affected those who are taking the exam for the first time but also those for whom the CSS-2016 is their last chance. The Senate’s proposal regarding the age limit, if materialised, will not only offset criticism to the recent changes made by the FPSC but will also provide breathing space to all those candidates who have been forced to take their last CSS examination with the new combination of optional subjects.
