Islamabad: The medical graduates of Shifa College of Medicine (SCM) have scored highly in the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLE) for the year 2014-2015 giving tough competition to the International Medical Graduates (IMGs).
SCM legal advisor and spokesman Raja Saimul Haq Satti while talking to ‘The News’ said that as per Examination Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) the medical graduates of SCM scored more than the IMG average in the post-medical graduation examinations known as USMLE - Step 1, Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK) and Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS) examinations.
In addition SCM students secured the highest number of residency slots, in terms of total applicants per college among Pakistani trained medical students.
Dr Syed Shoaib Hussain Shah, principal of Shifa College of Medicine and Professor of Forensic Medicine, elucidated that while some academicians cautioned the PMDC, which is the regulatory authority for medical institutions in Pakistan, against introduction of ‘integrated system of teaching medicine’ in the country.
He said Shifa has started its ingenuously developed integrated curriculum based on the CAN MEDS framework; which is now bearing fruit in the form of the performance of its students. After nearly a decade, PMDC now has to enforce a system similar to the one, practiced in the Shifa, in all medical colleges of Pakistan as it has now become an international requirement.
Representatives from several local and international medical colleges have visited and appreciated the work done by the College on its curriculum.
