OKARA: Hundreds of members of the District Kisan Board (DKB) on Wednesday staged a sit-in in support of their demands in front of the DCO office.
DKB president Ch Shaukat Ali and Jamaat-e-Islami district ameer Dr Liaqat Ali Kausar led the sit-in. The protesters chanted slogans in favour of their demands and said that their outstanding amounts of sugarcane should be released immediately from the sugar mills. They said that the farmers had to bear loss in the crops of rice and potato and now the Passco and the Food Department were not giving them gunny bags so that they could sell their wheat on the government’s rate. They asked the government to establish a laboratory to check standard of fertilisers, seed and pesticides in the district. They demanded the government announce the rate of maize, which was ready for harvesting.
FIRING AT POLICE: Residents of 20/GD village allegedly opened fire at a police party of Sadar police station and tore off their police uniform when the cops raided to arrest two alleged dacoits.
The police raided to arrest alleged dacoits Asif and Nadeem. When the police reached to the village, the villagers allegedly opened fire at the police. Later, they also allegedly tore off police uniform of the cops. The police have registered a case.
