PESHAWAR: The Child Rights Movement, Khyber Pakhtun-khwa chapter, Wednesday urged the government to increase education budget for the fiscal year 2015-16.
Speaking at a press conference, provincial coordinator of the organisation, Shakeel Khan, said that the previous government through Child Protection and Welfare Act 2010 set up 11 Child Protection Units in various districts of the province, mostly run by Save the Children and UNICEF. He asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to increase the budget and establish Child Protection Units in all districts of the province and take practical measures to end child labour.
Shakeel claimed that 2.5 million children between five to 16 years of age in Khyber Pakhtun-khwa couldn’t go to schools due to abject poverty. He asked the government to evolve a comprehensive system to ensure the protection of child rights.
