BARA: The political administration of Khyber Agency on Wednesday said that educational activities had resumed in Bara tehsil after the restoration of peace as a result of military operation Khyber-1.
Briefing reporters after inaugurating the Government Higher Secondary School for Girls in Kalanga area in Akakhel, Political Agent Syed Shahab Ali Shah said the government had allocated a huge amount for the development schemes in Bara.
“The schemes will be undertaken in education and health sectors while the condition of roads and other infrastructure will also be improved,” he added. He said that 116 schools, including 62 for girls, had reopened after six years.
“The Education Department has pitched tents for the children,” he said, adding that the damaged buildings of schools were being reconstructed. The official added that the militants had destroyed the infrastructure, including schools, colleges and hospitals, but the administration continued educational activities at the tent schools.
“Thousands of tribespeople were forced to move to safer places due to militancy leaving behind their businesses and properties,” he said.Shahab Ali Shah maintained that the government had to launch another military operation against the proscribed militant organisations - Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Lashkar-i-Islam (LI) - to stamp out militancy from Khyber tribal region. He said that after the completion of the Operation Khyber-1, the security forces lunched Operation Khyber-II in Tirah valley to flush out the militants from there.
The official said that during the Operation Khyber-II the security forces advanced and took control of several mountain tops and cleared 80 percent area in Tirah valley. To a question, he said that at least 22,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Akakhel tribe and other tribes had returned to Bara.He said that return process of the other tribes living in Akakhel area would soon complete.
