MULTAN: The district administration has stopped the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf from holding an election meeting at Multan Railway Ground due to security concerns.
DCO Zahid Saleem Gondal stated this after a meeting with the district returning officer and police officers held in connection with PP-196 by-polls here on Tuesday. He said that all political parties taking part in the by-polls had expressed their security concerns over the PTI election meeting at Railway Ground. He, however, said that the district administration was reviewing Multan Sports Ground as an alternate for the PTI election meeting. He said that he had suggested all political parties to hold their election meetings at the sports ground. He said that strict security measures would be adopted in and around the polling stations. He sought cooperation from the civil society, citizens and political parties to ensure peaceful by-election. He said that the district administration was completely impartial in the by-election on the orders of the ECP and it would provide foolproof security to all candidates. He said that stern action would be recommended to the ECP on violation of the election code of conduct.
Multan CPO Muhammad Saleem said that the district police would take stringent security measures on the polling day to avoid any untoward incident. He said that no notice, advertisement, installation of party flags, stickers or election symbols would be allowed without prior permission of the DRO within 100 yards radius of the polling stations.
Meanwhile, DCO Zahid Saleem Gondal, CPO Muhammad Saleem and other officers visited the sports ground, a proposed venue for the PTI election meeting.
