A petition was filed in the Sindh High Court on Monday for an inquiry into the killing of over 50 suspects in alleged police encounters led by former SSP Malir Rao Anwar over the past six months.
The petitioner, Rana Faizul Hasan, submitted that the former SSP had killed several suspects, including alleged Talban militants, in encounters and none of the suspects was ever produced in court or afforded a fair trial.
He alleged that Anwar was supporting land grabbers in Gadap Town, who had been threatening the petitioner to withdraw a case pertaining to the occupation of evacuee property in Sikandar Goth.
He not only prayed the court to order an inquiry into the encounters led by Anwar over the past six months, but also sought a judicial inquiry into the police encounters conducted over the past five years.
The petitioner also requested the court to ask higher authorities on whose orders had the former SSP held his recent press conference in which he brought forward serious allegations against the Muttahida Quami Movement.
