The visit of Chinese head of state has had a meaningful impact on the mind of city consumers who appear hopeful of peace, progress and prosperity in the coming days: they in fact foresee solution to social and economic difficulties, including loadshedding, price hike and unemployment.
Ordinary consumers argue the problems they are facing in the shape of electricity and gas outages and rising food prices are actually inherited. “No harm in learning the secret of China’s exemplary success in agricultural and industrial fields for the benefit of our motherland,” say lower people, adding that it’s the duty of a government to maintain law and order, so that the life and property of citizens are fully protected; if we want to make our motherland really happy and prosperous we should wholly and solely concentrate on the well-being of the masses.
They recall the Quaid believed in Islamic principles and democracy and advocated the cause of the poor. His use of the Islamic idiom was not limited to any confrontational situations but extended to domestic reconstruction policy. He said it was his belief that salvation lay in following the golden rules of conduct set for us by our great law giver, the Prophet of Islam (PBUH). Foundations of democracy have to be laid on the basis of truly Islamic ideal and principles.
Like the architect of Pakistan, who had supported the Chinese people’s struggle for freedom, the consumers dream a welfare state. They seem conceiving their motherland based on foundations of social justice and Islamic socialism which stress equality and brotherhood of man. They want eradication of poverty and backwardness among the masses.
Why city consumers recall the Quaid’s speech at the 30th session of the Muslim League during the freedom struggle? That speech reflected his vision: “It will be a people’s government; I should like to give a warning to the landlords and capitalists who have flourished at our expense by a system which is so vicious, which is so wicked and which makes them so selfish that it is difficult to reason with them; the exploitation of the masses has gone into their blood; they’ve forgotten the lesson of Islam; greed and selfishness have made these people subordinate to the interests of others in order to fatten themselves.”
City consumers say: “We will have to unite as the Quaid had said and the Chinese had done; build our character as he had defined and then see the dream come true.”
