ISLAMABAD
Women parliamentarians in National Assembly are regularly staging walkout to protest against the fact that they are not provided with the development funds and are kept away from decision making process.
MNA from JUI-F Asiya Nasir on Wednesday shared the details of this protest at Aawaz National Forum (ANF) meeting organised by Sungi Development Foundation on Wednesday. The event was held under the AAWAZ voice and accountability programme run by Sungi, SAP-PK, Aurat Foundation and SPO in 45 districts of Punjab and KP.
“I think women parliamentarians have merely become ‘decorum keepers’ as the major role they play is to keep their attendance for Assembly business rather than contribute in the decision making,” she said.
Asiya regretted that when they stage walkout, neither male Parliamentarians approach them nor media give them due coverage. “We feel as if women Parliamentarians are made part of the Parliament only for face saving,” she added.
On the other hand, National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) also took note of the recent developments in the Parliament and the walkout of women Parliamentarians on the denial of development funds.
