Karachi: The growing number of books fairs has vindicated the fact that book reading culture is still present in the younger generation despite of remarkable technological influences in their lifestyles.
This was stated by Dawood Public School Principal Huma Thaver on Thursday at an event held to mark the World Book Day.
Huma noted in the metropolitan city around 10 international book fairs were held along with six literature festivals and 12 children literature festivals during last five to six years, in which the good sale of books proved that the society still maintains the healthy habit of reading books. She added, “Students not only purchase books for them but also happily shares them with their classmates,” she added, This activity actually develops an association of student with books which is indispensable for success of their education goals.
However she also expressed her concern that the social media has indeed affected the reading habits of the younger generation.
Meanwhile, Hena Sunil, an author of book Equinox, while replying to a question disagreed with Huma, by saying the addiction toward social media does not directly influence the culture of book reading. She maintained the view “social media can also become a source of book reading, learning, exploring and exchanging books.”
