Justice Suhail Iqbal Bhatti of Lahore High Court issued notices on a petition seeking registration of addicts and establishment of rehabilitation centres for them necessitated under the Control of Narcotics Substances Act, 1997, and sought a report from the excise and taxation secretary and Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) Punjab director.
The judge sought replies from the respondents till May 5 on a petition filed by Rida Qazi who claimed that after the passage of 18th Amendment in 2010, it was a responsibility of the Punjab government to initiate measures for the rehabilitation of the drug addicts.
