Reham asks women to excel in all fields

MARDAN: Emphasising the productive role of women in all walks of life, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan’s wife Reham Khan Thursday asked the women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to actively participate in sports, politics, journalism and other professions.
Speaking as chief guest at the final match of the “Mrs Malik Saad Invitation Gold Cricket Cup” at the Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan (AWKUM), she said that women should not only enter the mainstream of national life but also represent the country at the international level.
Reham Khan said that participation in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities was a step towards a peaceful society.Provincial Minister for Education Muhammad Atif Khan, Vice-Chancellor, AWKUM, Prof Dr Ihsan Ali and Mrs Malik Saad also addressed the gathering.
The Mardan Women Cricket team defeated the Peshawar team by five runs in the final match of the tournament in which six women cricket teams from various districts of the province participated.
Reham Khan said sports were an integral part of any peaceful and successful society. She added that Imran Khan had high expectations from women in the province and wanted them to earn a name in various walks of life.
“The PTI government would establish the Women University in Mardan,” she said, adding that the project has been approved and soon it would become a reality. She said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been portrayed negatively at the national and international level. “People of this province are more peace-loving than anyone else,” she stressed.
Minister for Education Atif Khan said the tournament would help dispel the negative perception about Khyber Pakhtu nkhwa.Prof Dr Ihsan Ali said the Malik Saad Trust was playing an active role in the promotion of sports in the province. He assured his university’s support to all good causes including promotion of sports.
Later, Reham Khan distributed prizes among the players of the winning and runners-up teams. The winning team was awarded a trophy and cash prize of Rs100,000. A trophy and cash prize of Rs50,000 was awarded to the runners-up team.
Atif Khan and Prof Dr Ihsan Ali also announced cash prizes of Rs100,000 each from their own pocket for the winning and runners-up teams.Reham Khan also visited the university museum and took interest in the galleries depicting the Gandhara civilization and Pakhtun culture. She stressed the need for establishing such museums at the college level as well.
