Protests held over Turbat killings

Two separate protest demonstrations were organised outside the Karachi Press Club on Sunday against the gruesome killing of 20 labourers in Turbat, Balochistan.
Pakistan Trade Union Defence Campaign (PTUDC), a leftist group, had organised a protest to condemn the gruesome killing of the workers in Turbat area.PTUDC leader Jannat Hussain said the group had arranged protests across the country to condemn the Baloch insurgent group, Baloch Liberation Front (BLF), for their acts of targeting civilians, especially workers.
“Baloch insurgents target mainly construction workers as they are soft targets and living in makeshift camps along accessible roads,” he said.A separate organisation, Pakistan Seraiki Qaumi Party (PSQP), also held a demonstration outside the KPC in which they criticised the government for failing to protect citizens.
Liaquat Ali Advocate, a leader of PSQP, said the majority of the killed labourers were from Rahim Yar Khan District of Punjab’s Seraiki belt. “Because of unemployment and poverty, a significant number of workers from our area are employed parts of Balochsitan as construction workers,” he said, adding that some Seraiki labourers had also been killed in the Hub recently.
