Rawalpindi
Administration of Benazir Bhutto Hospital has claimed that the facility of CT Scan would be available to all patients from tomorrow (Friday).
The facility was supposed to be operational for all patients from Monday but it could not be done because of arrangements needed to be made, said BBH Chief Dr. Asif Qadir Mir while talking to ‘The News’ on Wednesday.
He added that the newly installed CT Scan machine is being operated for over a month for indoor patients only and the hospital had to complete at least 100 test-runs before making it available to general public. “Now we have performed nearly 120 test-runs on the CT Scan and it being made public from Friday,” he said.
Talking of the preparations, he said the BBH has purchased as many as 100 films that are to be used for the CT Scans while a counter would be set-up at the emergency department of the hospital for registering patients requiring the facility. To a query, he said the hospital administration would issue a circular to make the CT Scan facility open for all on Thursday (today).
The radiology department of the hospital has taken over the facility and is ready to operate it for public, he said. He added that the firm that installed the CT Scan has already imparted training to all the concerned staff including doctors at the Radiology Department of the BBH for working on the modern 16-slice CT Scan. It is important that in June last year, the Punjab health department has placed order for the 16-slice CT Scan to the supplier directing the firm to install and make the equipment operational within 90 days.
According to the agreement, the supplier had to install the CT Scan and lead sheets and hand it over to the hospital after completing test-runs and training of relevant staff. Earlier the BBH had a single-slice CT Scan that had been out of order for over two years. The CT Scan installed at the BBH recently has a two-year warranty with parts while the supplier would be responsible for five-year maintenance of the equipment.
To a query, Dr. Mir said the facility of CT Scan would be available to all patients in all departments of the hospital including medical, orthopaedic and neurosurgery departments. He added the facility would be available to patients in all three shifts, morning, evening and night. The CT Scan installed at the BBH is of latest type and is capable of performing 16 slices whole body plain and with contrast scan. The equipment would be utilized to perform cerebral, carotid, pulmonary, aortic, renal and abdominal angiography while virtual bronchoscopy and colonoscopy would also be performed at it, he said. He added that the facility of CT Scan would be available to routine patients in the morning including patients visiting outpatients department of the hospital and those who are admitted while in the evening and night shifts, the facility would be operated only for emergency cases.
